What an ATM Costs a Store Owner

An ATM costs a store owner nothing under free placement, about $2,370 to $2,500 to buy a new Genmega outright, and up to about $7,000 for upgraded through the wall models. Processing through California Merchant Solutions is free once the machine does 300 or more transactions a month.

The three price tags

Free placement: $0

We buy the machine, install it, program it, load the cash, monitor and maintain it, and supply the paper. You supply power and about three square feet of floor and earn a share of the surcharge. This is the right choice for most stores that do not want to tie up cash or deal with the machine.

Buying a machine: about $2,000 to $2,800 for a basic new ATM

A Genmega G2500 is $2,370 and a Genmega Onyx is $2,500 from us, with express shipping and lift gate delivery included. Upgraded machines with larger cassettes, through the wall cabinets or touch screens run up to about $7,000. Every machine carries a one year parts warranty, and Genmega machines carry two years.

Processing: $0 at 300 or more transactions a month

If you own your machine, processing is free once it does 300 or more transactions a month, with no contract. That is ordinary volume for a busy store, and it is the same 300 withdrawals that produce roughly $1,000 in surcharge. We can afford to process it free because the card networks pay us a small interchange fee, roughly ten cents per transaction. You keep the entire surcharge. Below 300 transactions a month, call us for the current rate. If you already own an EMV compliant ATM you can switch it to our processing on the same terms.

The costs people forget

Cash float. An owner operated machine needs cash in it. Plan on around $4,000 every four days at a typical store, or about $7,000 a week at a busy one. Funds come back to your account within 48 hours, so it is a float, not a cost, but it is money you cannot use elsewhere.

Installation. You can install it yourself, hire a contractor, or have one of our technicians do it. Bolting the machine to the floor is strongly recommended.

Paper, repairs and time. Receipt paper is cheap. Repairs after the warranty are rare on Genmega machines but real. The bigger cost is your time loading cash and checking the machine.

What an ATM makes

Revenue is surcharge multiplied by withdrawals. A store doing 300 withdrawals a month at $3.25 collects close to $1,000 a month. Own the machine and you keep all of it, so a $2,370 machine pays for itself in about three to six months. Take a placement and you keep a share, subject to volume, with none of the work.

Three ways to put an ATM in your store

01

Free placement

California Merchant Solutions buys the machine, installs and bolts it down, programs it, handles the processing, loads the cash, monitors it, maintains it and supplies the paper, with 24/7 support. You provide a power outlet and about three square feet of floor. You earn a share of the surcharge on every withdrawal.

02

Merchant loaded

We supply and support the machine, you load it with your own cash. Because your money is doing the work, the surcharge split moves in your favor, typically 50/50 or a base amount per transaction. Withdrawn funds are redeposited to your account within 48 hours.

03

Buy your own

Own the ATM outright, keep the whole surcharge and use our processing with no contract. Processing is free once the machine does 300 or more transactions a month, which is ordinary volume for a busy store. We ship in five to ten business days with express shipping and lift gate included, and every machine carries a parts warranty.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an ATM cost to buy?

A new Genmega G2500 is about $2,370 and a Genmega Onyx about $2,500 from us. Basic new machines generally run $2,000 to $2,800. Upgraded models with larger cassettes or through the wall cabinets can run up to about $7,000. Shipping with lift gate is included on our machines.

How much does an ATM cost per month?

If you own the machine and it does 300 or more transactions a month, processing is free and there is no contract. Below 300 a month, call us for the current rate. Your other ongoing costs are cash to load, paper and any repairs after the warranty. Under free placement there are no monthly costs at all.

How much cash do I need to load an ATM?

At a typical location about $4,000 every four days, or about $7,000 a week at a busier one. Withdrawn funds are redeposited to your bank account within 48 hours, so the same money cycles.

How much does an ATM make?

Surcharge times withdrawals. At a $3.25 surcharge and 300 withdrawals a month that is close to $1,000 a month. Owners who buy a machine at that volume usually recover the cost in three to six months.

What is the surcharge?

The fee the customer pays for using the ATM, set by the owner, commonly $2.50 to $3.50 in stores. The owner keeps all of it on a machine they own, or shares it under a placement.

Is there a cheaper way than buying?

Yes. Free placement costs the store nothing. We buy, install, load and maintain the machine and you receive a share of the surcharge.
